Environmental Stewardship

Our business relies on the well-being of the environment, and we take sustainability seriously. Among our many initiatives, we installed Western Canada’s first Seabin — an innovative floating garbage bin that removes plastics, oils, and other waste from the ocean, and now we have five Seabins located at our marinas. We’re also proud to have marine eco-certification under the Georgia Strait Alliance’s Clean Marine BC. This program helps boating facilities reduce the impact of recreational boating on the Salish Sea and beyond through improved environmental measures, including the reduction and containment of toxins, collection and disposal of various wastes, water and energy conservation, and habitat protection.

Our Marina Dockside Eatery located at the Oak Bay Marina is 100% Ocean Wise certified, and uses recyclable and compostable takeout containers. OBMG also has hosted regular beach cleanups on Vancouver Island, which has resulted in nearly 1,000 lbs. of garbage removed from our shores. Moving forward, we will continue to evaluate our climate adaptation and mitigation policy to ensure we are minimizing our impact on the planet so that future generations can enjoy it.

We acknowledge and respect that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Coast and Straits Salish Peoples. Specifically, we recognize the Lekwungen peoples known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations whose historical relationship to the land continues to this day.
